Opportunity Information: Apply for USDA FS WERC 2014 W2E
The U.S. Forest Service Wood Education and Resource Center (WERC) is inviting proposals for the Hazardous Fuels Wood to Energy (W2E) Grant Program. This program is aimed at supporting wood energy projects that require engineering services for design and cost analysis. To be eligible, projects must partially utilize woody biomass sourced from National Forest System lands, particularly those derived from hazardous fuel treatments, forest restoration, or similar efforts.
Projects can also incorporate biomass from various land ownerships, including State, Tribal, or private lands, but must include some biomass from National Forest lands. Eligible projects must employ commercially viable wood energy systems to generate thermal, electrical, liquid, or gaseous energy. Examples include designs for biomass boilers or power generation facilities.
This grant is particularly focused on applicants needing financial support for engineering design work necessary to obtain additional public or private funding, such as USDA Rural Development grants. The current emphasis is on developing projects in geographic or sector-based clusters, like schools or hospitals, to enhance efficiency and biomass utilization.
Applications must be submitted electronically by 11:59 p.m. on June 3, 2014, and should consist of two separate PDF or Word files: one for the proposal narrative and appendices, and another for financial forms. For further information, visit the WERC website.Apply for USDA FS WERC 2014 W2E
