Opportunity Information: Apply for 25 548
The Accelerating Research Translation (ART) program, led by the National Science Foundation, aims to turn academic research into practical solutions that drive economic and social impact across the U.S. It emphasizes building institutional capacity at higher education institutions (IHEs) to move innovations beyond the lab and into real-world use. This includes not just creating startups, but also influencing policy, education, and industries.
The ART program supports a variety of IHEs—regardless of their current research infrastructure—by offering funding through five distinct Tracks tailored to each institution's readiness and capacity for research translation.
Key Tracks:
1. Track 1 (ACT – Accelerating Technology Transfer): For IHEs with low-to-medium research volume and limited infrastructure. Awards up to $3 million over 3 years, with potential renewal of $1 million for an additional 2 years. Up to 20 awards.
2. Track 2 (GROW – Growing Capacity for Research Translation): For IHEs with robust research activity but underdeveloped translational infrastructure. Requires a partnership with a high-capacity IHE. Awards up to $6 million over 4 years. Up to 10 awards.
3. Track 3 (RESOURCE – Technology Transfer Resource Centers): For high-capacity IHEs or non-profits to support multiple low-capacity institutions in their region. Awards up to $8 million over 4 years, with potential $2 million renewal for another 4 years. Up to 5 awards.
4. Track 4 (ET – Education and Training): Focused on developing and spreading educational and training programs related to tech transfer and entrepreneurship. Aimed at helping lower-capacity IHEs nationwide. Awards up to $3 million over 3 years, with potential $2 million renewal for 2 more years. Up to 4 awards.
5. Track 5 (CART – Coordinating Accelerating Research Translation): Supports a central coordinating hub to oversee, evaluate, and connect the efforts of the teams from Tracks 1-4. Awards up to $3 million over 5 years, with the possibility of a 5-year renewal and another $3 million. Up to 2 awards.
Eligibility revolves around U.S.-based colleges, universities, and certain non-profit organizations tied to research or education. Foreign institutions are not eligible for direct funding but may collaborate.
The ART program is designed to seed sustainable research translation ecosystems across the country, giving all regions an opportunity to benefit from academic innovation regardless of their starting point.Apply for 25 548
