Opportunity Information: Apply for OES OPP 12 002

The Department of State's Bureau of Oceans and International Environmental and Scientific Affairs (OES) has announced a grant opportunity aimed at advancing the careers of women in science. This initiative is focused on providing professional development activities for early career female scientists, promoting skills like leadership, networking, and effective communication.

To qualify, proposals should concentrate on institution-level capacity building, ensuring local organizations can sustain the training emphasized in the application. Eligible countries include Brazil, Colombia, Egypt, Indonesia, Malaysia, Tunisia, Turkey, and Vietnam, with a minimum participant requirement of 25. Preference will be given to proposals that utilize digital platforms, facilitate exchange programs through university partnerships, or reach broader audiences.

Applications should demonstrate a strong understanding of the scientific education landscape in the proposed country, outlining methodologies to address existing gaps and promote sustainable change. The event outcomes should be documented in a report or peer-reviewed article. It is encouraged that participants are matched with mentors in their respective scientific fields, particularly in underrepresented technical areas, and that instructors primarily consist of female scientists.

Eligible applicants include non-profit organizations, educational institutions, and NGOs with substantial experience in international science and technology capacity building. Collaborating with local institutions to enhance the long-term impact of the proposed activities is highly encouraged.

The total grant for the selected proposal will not exceed 99,000 USD, with a performance duration of 18 months. Additional funding might be available for expanding activities in the future, depending on funding availability.
