Opportunity Information: Apply for S OES 09 RFA 0002

The Office of International Health and Biodefense at the Department of State has announced a Request for Applications for the Ambassadors Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (AWASH) in Schools Initiative. This initiative is focused on improving water and sanitation access in schools by implementing sustainable practices and raising awareness about hygiene.

The goal is to transform targeted schools into “WASH friendly” environments, which includes installing hand washing stations, latrines for both girls and boys, and implementing a comprehensive hygiene education curriculum. The selected grantee will collaborate with OES and U.S. Embassies to launch public events and media campaigns to emphasize the significance of proper water, sanitation, and hygiene practices.

The total funding available from the U.S. Department of State is $148,500. Additional support from U.S. Embassies in the host countries is expected to match or exceed this amount, potentially bringing total funding to around $297,000 or more. The grantee is also expected to contribute cost-sharing to match or exceed the U.S. Government's contribution. The initiative will target at least one school in each of 15 to 20 selected countries. Non-governmental organizations (NGOs) with experience in international water projects are encouraged to apply.
