Opportunity Information: Apply for CDC RFA CK 10 006E
The American Red Cross in San Juan, Puerto Rico, has announced a grant opportunity aimed at funding a research project focused on testing for the Dengue Virus in blood donations. Each year, the Red Cross collects roughly 77,000 units of whole blood in Puerto Rico, contributing to about half of the local blood supply for hospitals. Given that Dengue is common in the region with seasonal outbreaks from July to December, this study aims to identify and exclude infected blood units from the supply. The research will also evaluate the risk of transmitting Dengue through blood transfusions and collect data that could potentially support the development and licensing of a Dengue testing method in the future.
