Opportunity Information: Apply for CNCS GRANTS 031009 001
The AmeriCorps State and National Recovery Act Assistance grants are aimed at helping current AmeriCorps grantees access funds from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. These funds are intended to enhance programming or add new components to engage AmeriCorps members and volunteers in efforts to boost the economy. Eligible activities include job counseling and skills training, housing construction and rehabilitation, assisting nonprofits with increased demands, recruiting volunteers, and connecting families to healthcare, among others.
Only current AmeriCorps grantees that were operational as of February 17, 2009, can apply, while planning grants are not eligible. Applications should be submitted to the same entity where the current AmeriCorps grant was obtained. The funds focus on addressing community needs intensified by the economic crisis and prioritize specific activities such as employment training, financial literacy, housing assistance, and healthcare access.
Grantees are encouraged to seek funding for existing programs but can also propose new programs if they demonstrate the capacity to implement them effectively. In addition, they may apply for AmeriCorps positions without requesting grant funds. Overall, the initiative aims to mobilize citizens to support a variety of local needs across the country through community service programs. Most funding goes to state service commissions, which then distribute subgrants to local organizations.Apply for CNCS GRANTS 031009 001
