Opportunity Information: Apply for R10SF80251

The Desalination and Water Purification Research and Development (DWPR) program is inviting applications for funding aimed at advancing desalination and water purification technologies. This initiative seeks to create partnerships with various stakeholders, including private industry, universities, and water utilities, to tackle pressing water purification challenges, particularly in areas where private entities may be hesitant to invest due to risks involved.

The program focuses on projects in three key categories:

1. **Research and Laboratory Studies:** These are small-scale studies that assess the feasibility of processes typically involving flow rates under 2 gallons per minute (gpm). Successful projects may receive additional funding, with a cost share up to $150,000.

2. **Pilot Scale Projects:** These should follow prior research studies that confirm the technology's viability. Involving flow rates from 1 to 20 gpm, these projects help evaluate physical and economic factors, with a two-year agreement allowing for cost share of up to $200,000 per year.

3. **Demonstration Scale Projects:** These larger-scale projects require successful pilot studies and typically have flow rates between 20 and 500 gpm. They aim to refine cost estimates and establish technology marketability, with three-year agreements offering cost share up to $500,000 annually.

While institutions of higher education and certain research foundations are exempt from cost sharing, other applicants are required to provide a cost share of 75%, which can be reduced to 50% if additional federal funding is necessary for project feasibility.
