State and local health departments are essential to bridge the gap between climate and health. This new funding opportunity continues programmatic efforts initiated through pilot projects funded to provide strategic planning, and guidance to address the long term consequences of climate change, and to reduce related morbidity and mortality. It also continues surveillance, assessment and evaluation efforts to measure the public health impact of these programs, while placing new emphasis on workforce development, collaborative partnerships, and on contributing to the body of knowledge in the field of climate change and human health.
