- This award will be a continuation of funds intended only for grantee previously awarded under Funding Opportunity Announcement IP10 007, Effectiveness of Empiric Antiviral Treatment for Hospitalized Community Acquired Pneumonia during the Influenza Season (U18). A third year of patient enrollment is needed to obtain the sample size necessary to meet the objectives of this study. Despite good enrollment during the second year of the study, 2011 12, few influenza infections were identified. Flu activity was low through the U.S. Also, the number of LRTI hospitalizations was lower than previous years. An additional year would allow a larger sample size. Based on past performance, if current enrollment rates continue and there is 10 15 influenza, sample size will be met.
