Opportunity Information: Apply for NEAPI 11 AW 032 MENA 021811

The U.S. Department of State's Middle East Partnership Initiative (MEPI) is inviting applications for a grant to partner with an existing grantee on Phase III of the Establishing Student Councils project in Yemen. This final phase aims to fully implement the student councils model with local and national education officials while setting up new councils in remaining governorates. The project promotes civic education, allowing students to engage with principles of transparency, democracy, and participation.

Applicants must demonstrate the ability to replicate an existing high school student council model and support the development of parent councils in schools that lack them. They will work alongside the current grantee, the Academy for Educational Development (AED), which has been running the project since 2007.

The new partner will focus on expanding the program to schools in several specific governorates, including Sayoun, Hadhramout, Al Mahrah, and others, while building on initial efforts in Aden. As security challenges hinder expansion to Sa'adah and Al Jawf, applicants showing capability in reaching these areas will be given special consideration.
