SUNY will provide various forms of technical assistance focused on the history, inventory, evaluation, and treatment of cultural landscapes within national parks. The initiative includes supporting the NPS Olmsted Center for Landscape Preservation, offering SUNY ESF students practical exposure to cultural landscape preservation, and preparing summary reports on Section 106 advising for parks.
SUNY will also create documentation related to site history, existing conditions, and the historical significance of cultural landscapes. Additional tasks include supporting the Cultural Landscapes Inventory (CLI) program and helping integrate cultural landscape data into the NPS Facilities Management Software System (FMSS). There will be a national park-based field school aimed at educating students about cultural landscape preservation and park management.
