The Rural Housing and Economic Development Program aims to support innovative housing and economic development initiatives in rural areas. The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) is making approximately $26 million available through a competitive selection process.
There are three main categories for funding:
1. **Support for Innovative Housing and Economic Development Activities**: Up to $17 million is designated for federally recognized Indian tribes, state housing finance agencies, and local rural nonprofits to develop innovative projects. Each successful applicant can receive a maximum of $300,000.
2. **Economic Development and Entrepreneurship for Federally Recognized Indian Tribes**: This category allocates around $8 million to promote entrepreneurship and economic development among federally recognized Indian tribes. Funds can support revolving loan programs and business development, with a maximum grant amount of $300,000.
3. **Technical Assistance for Federally Recognized Indian Tribes**: A total of about $1 million will be awarded to technical assistance providers to enhance the capacity of federally recognized Indian tribes through training and outreach.
