Opportunity Information: Apply for 20081001 FW

The Teaching Development Fellowships (TDF) aim to enhance the quality of humanities education in the United States by supporting college and university educators. The program focuses on three main objectives: improving humanities education, strengthening the connection between research and teaching, and promoting excellence in undergraduate instruction. Eligible projects must seek to enhance an existing undergraduate course that the applicant has previously taught multiple times. New course proposals or basic course preparation are not accepted.

Research must align with the applicant's core interests in the humanities and can involve studying foundational texts, exploring related fields, or addressing overlooked areas of study. Projects may also incorporate the development of new language or digital skills relevant to the research. Importantly, the focus should be on course improvement rather than on scholarly publication.

This selective program anticipated awarding around twenty-four fellowships in its first year (2008). However, it does not support projects aimed at developing new courses, graduate-level teaching preparation, or any research that promotes a specific political, philosophical, or ideological agenda. Additionally, creative arts projects or research required for degree programs are not eligible.
