These institutions of higher education include public, proprietary, or other nonprofit educational institutions. Applicants must identify their institution type in Section 9 of the SF 424 Application for Federal Assistance. Eligible institutions must be accredited by a nationally recognized accrediting agency or association that has been recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. A database of institutions that are accredited by bodies recognized by the U.S. Department of Education can be found at http://ope.ed.gov/accreditation/. Applicants are strongly encouraged to check this Web site, as the Department will reference this database in determining an applicants accreditation to ensure eligibility. Generally, institutions of higher education include 2 year and 4 year colleges and universities, Historically Black Colleges and Universities, Tribal Colleges and Universities, and Hispanic Serving Institutions, among others.
