Opportunity Information: Apply for FTA 2010 005 TRI

The Federal Transit Administration (FTA) has announced the availability of discretionary funds for the Transit Investments for Greenhouse Gas and Energy Reduction (TIGGER II) Program in Fiscal Year 2010. A total of 75 million dollars has been allocated for grants aimed at public transit agencies to invest in projects that reduce energy consumption or greenhouse gas emissions in their transit systems.

There are two main purposes for TIGGER grants: capital investments that reduce energy consumption and those that decrease greenhouse gas emissions. Project proposals can be submitted under either or both categories, but each proposal can only include one project. The minimum funding request for projects is 1 million dollars, with a maximum of 25 million dollars. Projects under the minimum may be submitted as part of a consolidated proposal through a State Department of Transportation, provided the total meets the 1 million threshold.

The FTA may provide partial funding for some proposals to maximize program impact. For projects that do not qualify or meet the funding thresholds, applicants are encouraged to explore options under the Bus and Bus Facilities or Clean Fuels programs, which have easier application criteria.

Interested applicants should prepare their proposals early, as the FTA will launch an electronic portal for submissions around July 1, 2010. For application instructions and further details, applicants can visit the FTA program website and are encouraged to sign up for email notifications for updates. Grant selections will be announced in the Federal Register after the competitive selection process is completed.
