Opportunity Information: Apply for 93250 8 0130
The 2009 Monarch Butterfly Monitoring Workshop aims to bring together about 30 participants to Austin, Texas, for a three-day event in the spring. This initiative is a collaboration between the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the Texas Parks and Wildlife Foundation (TPWF) to establish a coordinated monarch butterfly monitoring program in Texas and neighboring states as part of the North American Monarch Conservation Plan.
The workshop is essential for educating land managers, nature center staff, and citizen scientists about monarch biology and conservation, as well as training them in specific monitoring protocols. These trained individuals will later educate and guide volunteers in their monitoring efforts.
Funding for the workshop amounts to $15,000, awarded through a Cooperative Agreement with TPWF, chosen for its unique qualifications and prior partnerships in conservation. The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department is also involved, leveraging its existing citizen science programs, such as Monarch Watch.
This workshop follows a pilot session held in Mexico, and the insights gained there will shape the Austin event. By facilitating this workshop, the partners aim to enhance monarch monitoring while ensuring continuity in these conservation efforts.Apply for 93250 8 0130
