Opportunity Information: Apply for CNCS 04 29 2015
The 2015 Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service Grants aim to encourage Americans to observe the MLK holiday as a day of community service. This initiative seeks to inspire a long-term commitment to helping others, uniting people to focus on service. The holiday, celebrated on the third Monday in January, honors Dr. King's legacy, highlighting his belief that "everybody can serve."
In 1994, Congress passed the King Holiday and Service Act, leading to efforts by the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) and the Martin Luther King Jr. Center for Nonviolent Social Change to promote this day as one dedicated to service rather than a day off.
Eligible projects should address community needs, such as enhancing access to education, combating hunger, and offering nutrition education, while also fostering community spirit and responsibility. These initiatives are intended to inspire ongoing service throughout the year, reflecting Dr. King's ideals of community building, empowerment, and breaking down barriers.
