Opportunity Information: Apply for 09 515

The Alliances for Broadening Participation in STEM (ABP) opportunity focuses on enhancing the completion rates of underrepresented students in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). This initiative encompasses three key programs: the Louis Stokes Alliances for Minority Participation (LSAMP), the Bridge to the Doctorate (LSAMP BD), and the Alliances for Graduate Education and the Professoriate (AGEP).

ABP aims to transform STEM education through innovative academic strategies, emphasizing support for African Americans, Alaskan Natives, Native Americans, Hispanic Americans, and Native Pacific Islanders. The LSAMP program plays a crucial role by fostering partnerships among universities, school districts, and private sectors to bolster diversity in the STEM workforce. LSAMP offers eligible undergraduate students potential funding for up to two years of graduate study in STEM through the Bridge to the Doctorate initiative, which provides financial support for those advancing to graduate programs.

The AGEP program focuses on ensuring that underrepresented students complete their doctorates and are prepared for careers as STEM faculty and researchers while also promoting inclusive institutional cultures to retain these doctoral candidates. Additionally, the program promotes Innovation through Institutional Integration (I3) projects, encouraging institutions to integrate NSF-funded initiatives strategically, with particular attention to enhancing programs within the Directorate for Education and Human Resources.

In summary, the ABP initiative seeks to create a more diverse and qualified STEM workforce by addressing barriers faced by underrepresented groups throughout their educational journeys.
