Opportunity Information: Apply for PA 06 433
The grant opportunity titled "Therapeutics Development for HIV/AIDS Associated Neuropsychological Disorders (STTR R41/R42)" invites Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) applications aimed at creating new therapeutics for mental and neurological disorders linked to HIV/AIDS. Sponsored by the NIMH Center for Mental Health Research on AIDS and NIDA, the initiative seeks innovative agents, methods, biomarkers, and drug delivery systems to reduce HIV reservoirs in the brain. Researchers can propose novel neurotoxicity assays, efficacy measures, and in vitro/in vivo models for evaluating potential treatments.
The funding supports studies exploring agents that can mitigate the long-term effects of antiretroviral treatments, especially in the presence of psychotropic drugs or substance abuse treatments. There is also an interest in therapies that address the impact of HIV in the central nervous system amid mental illness or drug addiction.
For funding, Phase I applications can request budgets up to $250,000 annually for two years, while Phase II can seek up to $450,000 annually for three years. The total number of awards and funding amounts are not predetermined. This opportunity runs parallel to a similar Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) announcement.
Eligible applicants must be small business concerns from the United States, meeting specific criteria. Individuals involved in the research, especially from underrepresented groups or with disabilities, are encouraged to apply. The Project Director or Principal Investigator may come from either the small business or a partnering non-profit research institution, provided a formal association exists. Multiple distinct applications from the same small business are allowed.Apply for PA 06 433
